Student Mobility Programme for Velenje School Centre: A Journey of Learning and Discovery in Tenerife
We recently had the pleasure of organizing a student mobility programme in Tenerife for a group of hospitality students from Velenje School Centre (Slovenia). The group, made up of six students and two teachers, participated in an enriching week-long experience designed to deepen their understanding of tourism, hospitality, gastronomy, and sustainability—key areas of their vocational education.
The programme combined professional visits, hands-on learning, and cultural exploration, offering participants a unique chance to connect theory with real-world practice.
Exploring Local Gastronomy: Quesería Montesdeoca
Our first visit took us to Quesería Montesdeoca, a family-run cheese factory located in the south of Tenerife. The students learned about the traditional methods of cheese production using local goat and sheep milk. From the preparation and aging process to the final tasting session, this experience offered an authentic look at Canarian culinary heritage and sustainable food practices.
Behind the Scenes at Hotel Best Jacaranda
Hospitality came to life during our guided tour of the Hotel Best Jacaranda, a 4-star hotel in Costa Adeje. Students had the opportunity to explore various departments within the hotel, including reception, housekeeping, food and beverage, and guest services. This behind-the-scenes experience helped them understand how large hotel operations are managed and the level of coordination required to ensure guest satisfaction.
A Taste of the Industry at GastroCanarias
Another highlight was our visit to GastroCanarias, the Canary Islands’ most important gastronomy fair. Here, the students participated on live cooking competitions, product demonstrations, and industry exhibitions featuring chefs, producers, and innovators from across the region. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore new trends, network with professionals, and gain inspiration from the vibrant culinary scene of the islands.
Mindful Walking at El Teide National Park
To balance the educational focus with well-being and reflection, we organized a mindful walk through El Teide National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by stunning volcanic landscapes, the students practiced mindfulness techniques while connecting with nature. This activity emphasized the importance of mental well-being and sustainability in both personal life and the tourism industry.
A Transformative Experience
This mobility programme was more than just a study visit—it was an opportunity for students to grow professionally and personally. Through real-world exposure and cultural exchange, they gained valuable insights, built new skills, and expanded their perspectives on tourism and hospitality.
We are proud to support vocational education through such initiatives and thank Velenje School Centre for their enthusiasm and collaboration.
